At Brant Food For Thought, we believe that all children and youth should have equal opportunities to learn and reach their full potential.  We also know that good nutrition positively affects a child’s ability to learn, whether it’s in the school setting or virtually from home.  As a community, we can work together during these unprecedented times to maximize a child’s learning success by ensuring they have equitable access to the most nutritious foods.

Now more than ever, Brant Food For Thought needs your support to give the gift of good nutrition to children and youth in our community.  They need access to the healthiest foods possible during this COVID-19 pandemic.

In a recent article by Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Peterborough Medical Officer of Health, featured in the Coalition For Healthy School Food, she stated that, “Healthy school food is the one ingredient that brings together the importance of healthy eating, physical and mental health, social connection, learning for our kids and overall student well-being.”

Here are three (3) ways that you can give the Gift of Good Nutrition during these challenging times.

  1. Consider a donation In Lieu of a Teacher Gift.

Many individuals are considering this option to minimize the risk of virus transmission to students and school staff.  You can dedicate your gift to your child’s teacher and support the school nutrition program at the same time.  We’ve even created a fillable e-card for the season.  Download your copy here: Holiday Card – The Gift of Good Nutrition

2.  Consider a gift to our Grab ‘N Go Healthy Snacks Program.

The pandemic has allowed Brant Food For Thought to “think outside the box” by providing healthy food for all students, whether they are learning at school or virtually from home.  Considerations were also made for in-school programs where staff and/or volunteer capacity were nil.   Brant Food For Thought has pivoted operations to prioritize healthy school food that lowers the risk of virus transmission and continues to support overall student health and well-being.

Brant Food For Thought is supporting school-based nutrition programs with simple food procurement options while still providing healthy grab ‘n go snack choices for students learning at school.

3.  Donate today to our Emergency Nutritious Food Relief Initiative.

Many families with children and youth are struggling at this time.  That’s why we’ve partnered with community agencies and neighbourhood groups to continue supporting students who are learning virtually from home.  Families can get access to whole fruits and vegetables, high quality dairy products and whole grain foods to keep their children and youth nourished while they learn.

The Brant Food For Thought Emergency Nutritious Food Relief Initiative is supporting students who may be more vulnerable and whose families have opted that they continue learning from home.  Now more than ever, our students need access to the most nutritious foods possible to increase their readiness to learn and support their overall health and well-being.
