March is National Nutrition Month and to help celebrate, Brant Food For Thought is launching their first Cereal Drive for Student Nutrition Programs in Brantford and Brant. The campaign will run from March 1st until March 29th. Student nutrition programs can voluntarily sign up to participate in the campaign.
Full details on the Cereal Drive Flyer.
The idea originated from our peers at Niagara Nutrition Partners and was a great success. Volunteers will find that this is a unique way to raise awareness of their program in the school while boosting it with some healthy in-kind donations of whole grain cereals and other grain products meeting the Ministry’s specific nutrition guidelines.
The list of whole grain products approved by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services is as follows:
CEREALS CRACKERS GRANOLA BARS
Shreddies Original Triscuits Chewy Bars
Multi-Grain Cheerios Multi-grain Breton –Apple Crumble
Life Multi-grain Multi-grain Wheat Thins –Peach Crumble
Multi-grain Gold Fish Crackers -Raspberry Crumble
Nature Valley Lunch Box – Very Berry
Brant Food For Thought will be awarding prizes to the Top 3 schools! And the community can get involved too. Just ask at a school in your neighbourhood if they are holding a cereal drive. You’ll get a list of whole grain products that the school can accept. It’s simple to do and a great way to help students in your community start their day right with a nutritious whole grain breakfast or snack. Be a Student Nutrition Program Champion today!
