From April 24 to 30, 2022, Brant Food For Thought is celebrating the many volunteers that are committed to the success of universal student nutrition programs in their school communities.  Volunteer Canada’s Annual National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to thank and recognize volunteers across our nation.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2022, Volunteering is Empathy in Action, affirms the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy. This profoundly human connection is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities.

Empathy is a quality that can help people relate to others and build awareness around different experiences. It connects people in ideas and actions and helps create bonds forged in common goals and aspirations.

Volunteering can help us develop empathy, to see the world through the eyes of others. It can connect people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, expanding our views. It can build our capacity to work collectively and contribute to a vibrant, inclusive society.

For Brant Food For Thought, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic greatly altered the landscape of volunteer engagement in school-based student nutrition programs.  Lack of volunteer capacity became a challenge for many programs.

Brant Food For Thought is extremely grateful to the many administrators, secretaries, teachers, educational assistants, parents and community volunteers who stepped up to fill the gap and make nutrition programs possible for the students in their respective schools.

Did you know…

To date in this school year, student nutrition program volunteers

have helped prepare and serve over 543,500 healthy breakfasts

and nutritious snacks to more than 8,500 students?

That’s totally awesome!

As a small token of our appreciation for stepping up during a challenging time, every volunteer will receive a coffee break gift card, sponsored by IG Private Wealth Management Gaudet Group.
